I ffinished watching the video and now have a nose bleed, and my shirt is covered in drool. This is the kind of place I have dreams of visiting, and I will probably dream of it tonight. If I was not out of space I'd be dying to get in on that impressive stash! If I did not have mostly great stuff I'd consider burning my collection on the front lawn to make space to get in on this!
It should go without saying that this is a tube TV geeks wet dream!

I think the ETF should maybe ban bringing stuff to sell next year and truck the contents of those buildings to Ohio for distribution/sale to collectors.

I should not go there or entertain the though of getting in on that as I'd find more things I'd have to save than I'd be able to store (if I annexed all living space for storage, and stacked em up like cord wood that is) let alone transport, but damn it my inner 5 year old wants part of that hoard soooo bad.....

It looks like a lot but when you start testing crts the room gets much smaller. You really have to analyze the sets you want for restorability. The aria is very damp so rust, wood rot and flyback failures are a problem

Dont even think of trading anything you own for anything in there.

Cool! More than just TVs in there...I spied a GE "Monitor" fridge...you know, the kind with the works in the round housing on top.

Were those stacks of CRTs all NOS?

Hoarding cases like that are sad. The hoarder has no interest in using the items, much less restoring them. They are not even displayed. It's all about the getting -- and then they are forgotten and often left to crumble.

I went to an estate sale several weeks ago that was similar, although not as extreme. At least the things piled in the house had been kept mostly dry. Not true for the items crammed into two unheated sheds in the back. Everything back there was slowly returning to the elements.

After witnessing a scene like that, I return home and look at my own piles of "stuff" with a different eye.

That said, I would have enjoyed exploring that shed. Haven't we all had those "treasure" dreams, where you stumble onto an amazing trove of interesting stuff?

I used to have dreams like that - going into some garage, and finding a filthy mcintosh mc-60 or something. Then wake up and realize i have to get up and go to work haha.

The tv show hoarders is entertaining, i usually end up watching it in hotels, since i don't get tlc at home. usually it's slobs or people with mental illness, but the occasional episode i think hey just leave this guy alone.

I saw that video a couple weeks ago (posted by a fellow AKer on Facebook, IIRC). Did the CTC-5 get saved? (Near the door in the opening scene)....

Hoard is not the right word. Its 40 years if customer 'turn ins'/'haul aways' from a huge tv distributor/repair shop/retail sales store.

Were turn-ins and trade-ins kept mainly to salvage parts? The radio/TV guy in my home town would periodically sell off working sets like that, during the town's annual "dollar days." That's where I got my very first radio, an old Silvertone console. The market for such things is limited, though. I always imagined that most things traded in to him eventually made their way to the dump.

Very entertaining video. Still even though those TVs are deteriating, there are still a lot of desirable parts - tubes, bezels, knobs, etc.

In the video you mention that there were some rooms that you were not allowed to see - is that were the good stuff was? Did you see many B/W roundies?

Like to find a hoard like that - its what we all dream about:-)
