Mid 80's RCA XL-100, worth getting?
Hey gang.
At the same thrift store that I got my Sony Trinitron, they have a small, 13 inch XL-100. It's got a date of 1985. Knob tuned. I believe it's also 85 cents just like the trinitron. It appears to be in good shape. Should I bother getting it?

Personally, I wouldn't pay $5 for it...but for 85 cents I think I'd have to grab it!

Could be the CTC120 or maybe CTC117. Yes get it. Some XL-100 tvs had the photocell for automatic brightness according to room lighting like my 120 has and 117 did. It can get irritating at times but overall is pretty well-implemented.
As was outlined in the Trintitron thread, many old sets can look fantastic after a little adjustment. |

Cool. I'll take a look at it this week. I'm sure it will still be there. No one around here seems to want these sets, even when they're 85 cents.

Not sure. They're just sitting in the back on a table along with what appears to be an early 80's Zenith Console. I haven't gotten the little RCA yet, but as far as my Trinitron, the price was originally $7, then they marked it down to $2, and the cashier just told me to pay 85 cents. I hope it's the same for the RCA.

I'm planning on getting the RCA today if it's still there. I'll post results later. Unfortunately, in order to make room for this TV I'll have to throw out or take a couple of early 80's troublesome TV's to the curb.

Well, I went to the thrift store today and it was gone, along with the big 80's Zenith console and several other TV's that were there before. Someone must have came and picked up the whole lot of em because one of the employees I talked with said that they have regulars who come in and look for electronics. I have a bad feeling that those TV's are getting stripped for copper.
Maybe someone in my area collects TV's. I'm glad now that I saved the '75 Trinitron. The reason why I got my Trinitron so cheap is because it was at the end of their fall clearance. They just switched over to X-mas season over the weekend and have a whole new batch of TV's that aren't anywhere near as old or as interesting as the RCA or the Sony.
