Zenith Color TV
Anyone able to identify this TV?

the pics are a little dark but I believe I have the same set
the cabinet is definately the same, the control panel looks slightly different tho mine is a model 25X4537 chassis 23xc38z i believe that doug has posted a 67/68 zenith brochure that shows the set

if that is a 23x chassis it should perform well. I have on of those, very solid build. The only problem I have had on them is HV regulation can be a little bit flakey. they dont use a HV shunt tube, but rather a tube that loads down the primary of the fly. I just dont think it works as well, but I understand the marketing was that it was safer from an X ray perspective (no way it the regulator tube can produce x rays, even if something went wrong).

Its a 20x1c38 chassis. I got it up into our apartment and put it in the back bedroom. I should be able to get some pics up soon. It will definitely need cleaned but it is in working order.
I may end up just selling it. Its a lot bigger than I thought and I don't have a lot of room at the moment. I really just wanted to save it from the scrappers since it was in the free section of Craigslist. I will have to play around with it first though. If there are any serious collectors in the Pittsburgh area though, send me a PM and we can work out a deal. I just want this to go to someone who will appreciate it.

thats an excellant chassis. There are several black electros, the AGC and the video out (4mf and 50mf IIRC) on mine went out. whats nice is since they were tube caps they were easy to replace vs having to stuff a filter can.
Def should be saved, would make a great daily driver.

oh symptoms of those failures...
AGC setting hyper critical (goes from snow to blanked out screen in just a few degrees turn of the pot). Video out cathode bypass, smearing fof the y channel to the right. may improve some after warming up (the cap performance improves some with heat).

That had to be their most popular chassis. Somewhere around here I have a book of factory service bulletins and recommended upgrades for the 20x1c38. Someday it will have a date with the scanner.
That chassis seems to be a bit harder on tubes and more sensitive to funky ones than most. It turns the 6KT8s black on the inside and the performance really goes wacky when they get weak. Please try and hang on to it or find a good home. That is one solid built hand made piece of American art.
