Shows With Commercials

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find 1950's shows on dvd that include the "ORIGINAL" commercials in the shows. I have the Beatles and Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show. These dvds include all of the original commercials within the shows. Having the old commercials in the show makes the viewing experience complete when watching on my 1950 Philco.

I got some cheap Burns and Allen DVD at the checkout at some gorcery store a while back. It has commercials in it (most are live commercials though, like when a character in the show sits at a table between scenes and explains a product, like ovaltine or whatever. Then you will see the product conveniently located in the set too, heh.

Not sure if they have what you're looking for, but do remember coming across some old tv commercials on this site. Lots of old movies too.

In the '50s, many TV programs (game shows in particular) were sponsored by one company, whose name was prominently displayed somewhere in the studio. Common sponsors in those days were companies dealing in hair care products (such as Brylcreem), razors and blades, women's hair care products and so on. One program I vividly remember that was always sponsored in the 1970s by an oil company (Exxon) was Meet the Press, on NBC-TV. I don't know who sponsored the program in the '60s and earlier.

When did TV programming practices get away from the "one sponsor" model? Meet the Press, for example, is still on NBC-TV, but the program has several sponsors these days. I would think it would cost the network much more to have multiple sponsors for a broadcast such as MTP than it did when the program was sponsored solely by Exxon.

Groucho Marx DVDs, and Johnny Carson's Lost Episodes are sets to look for. I found the Johnny Carson DVDs in Walmart. They have a lot of Chrysler Corporation commercials in them, from the mid to late 1950s.
