When it pours it rains... TV's that is!

Just when I thought I had enough old TV's these two orphans came my way....

They are both NZ made AWA Deep Image 23 inch black and whites, the one of the left is older and they both run the same chassis which is called the "35 Series".
I particularly like right hand one visually but both are nice looking sets.

I'm pretty certain these are based on an Australian version of the same set.

The right hand one is extremely tidy and from the looks of it, hasn't seen a lot of use, CRT tests 100% but the left hand one has had high hours and the CRT tests low but a boost might bring the emissions back up again.

I have no idea if they even work..Got them about 2 weeks ago and they're just taking up space in the garage so time to move them into the den. When I get time I will variac these monsters up and report back on my findings...

I really need these TV's like a hole in the head the moment but if I didn't take them they would have both gone through the crusher and that would be two more NZ b/w sets gone forever. So I'm glad I was there to save them!

I've got a 5" Sony B/W set chassis that I found in trash at a yard sale. The power transformer on it fixed another set I've had sitting around for 25 years!

You are correct in thinking these two are based on Australian models. We never had a 35 Series chassis but we did have a 34 and 36 Series. The 35 Series may have been reserved for NZ as an export chassis number.

In appearance your sets chassis are most similar to our 36 Series chassis. The most obvious difference being the row of adjustment pot's at the top of the chassis, yours are definitely of NZ origin.

Glad you saved them, they'll probably come back to life with very little effort as they were a generally reliable design.

I was going to ask about that row along the top-I couldn't tell just what they were. I guess this same chassis would be used in smaller sets with the crt neck through the cutout in the middle? I like how they would use that back cover for promotion-I noticed this done well with a Kreisler that one of the "down under" contingent has posted. Seems ashame to hide that up against a wall!

Thanks for that information Andrew, I had a feeling these were based on an Australian model. Thats promising then, these shouldn't be too hard to get going if they were a reliable design from the word go! Cheers

I think this chassis was used in various tube sizes so you are right about the crt neck hole through the centre of the chassis. Yeah I know what you mean about the back cover illustrations, does seem a shame to hide it all away!
