Quality of mid 90's Hitachi large screen direct view sets.

Hi all,

I have a chance to pick up a 1996 Hitachi 36" direct-view set relatively cheaply, it is the large console model with what looks like stereo speakers and possibly a sub or center channel in it.

Where these sets any good, how did the tubes hold up>

Thanks,

Matt

They weren't terrible; but, were by no means top notch. The flyback's were prone to fail in '80's and '90's Hitachi TV's. And, I have seen some weak CRT's in them. Otherwise, they had the usual vertical and power supply problems (usually bad caps). I'd still take a Hitachi over a Mitsubishi any day.
