A call that went nowhere but fun

Nothing special here but a tour through family history with the hope of a find. This post is just for fun and to remind us to go look at everything.

I got an email from my DVHRC club to look at a garage full of old tv stuff. I went today to meet the daughter of the deceased owner. It was is a working class neighborhood of NE Phila. A garage from the early 20's per the daughter. Dad passed in the 70's.

She knew that dad dabbled in tv and radio in this hideaway two-story garage across from the family home. It was a soggy mess from the leaky roof with a few dud 60's CRT's visible amongst the two floors and decaying wood and brick dust and the dark. Some rusty chassis parts lay about. The 1965 Chevy sedan was there covered and rusted since dad's passing. The top floor was unsafe to travel on and the rest was ready to collapse.

Nothing here but dud CRT's and the rusty Chevy. The best part was looking at the building and finding that this was a 1920's horse and carriage barn for probably horse-drawn vegetable vendors of the era in the middle of urban Philadelphia. Bi-fold doors at street level across the 20' property were the clue. A hay-loft door above. And a small office area above next to the hay loft. She had no clue and was glad to hear the history from before the family bought it.

We may go on these chases and find nothing but my is fun to fill in the blanks with the owner and what I know to keep up the pursuit,

Dave A
