How many LCD-Haters use LCD computer monitors??

I can say this because I am one of them....I bought a used LCD for the kitchen (Mainly cos it was cheap enough to experiment.)

IT SUCKS!! It sits on top of the fridge (same place as the tube one)

The picture is "decent" from about 4-5 feet away, but get any closer and it basically blacks out...

I don't like the tuners in these models either.....This particular one has both analog and digital tuners...To tune digital you must enter the 2-1 etc quickly or it will revert to analog 2.

Sound is HORRIBLE!! I turned the bass all the way up and the treble all the way down and it still sounds like a tin can.

OTOH I bought a LCD computer monitor about 4 or 5 years ago and would never go back!! Picture looks fine and is very good at average distance.

Bottom line IMHO LCD TVs LCD computer monitors

YMMV.

I have an lcd monitor because it was free and its lower power consumption than crt. I wouldnt say its better just cheaper to operate. 'And it should put out less radiation sense i sit 18 inches from it.

I bought an HP LCD monitor (don't know who actually made it for them) when the old HP CRT monitor died and I couldn't fix it (didn't really try too hard). After looking at several models, the HP looked the best in the store.

And, I know what you mean about those smaller, cheaper LCD TV's. When my Mother was looking for a new set for her bedroom, we looked at some of the off brand wal-mart cheapies and I'm here to tell you that I've junked worn out CRT sets that had a better picture. She ended up with a 26" Samsung that looks much better than the stuff at wal-mart; but, I still like my CRT sets better.

Is there any safe way that you can angle the set downward to compensate for the restricted viewing angle in the vertical direction?

I work for an electronics recycler. We get hundreds of flat tvs, LCDs, Plasmas, and DLPs. Some are store returns, or recalls. Sometimes we get new stuff that was damaged in shipping. My boss gave me a pair of twin 23" Vizio LED LCDs that I use as my monitor set at home. The front glass was broken in shipping, but they are brand new. I took them apart and took a heat gun and removed all of the broken glass and adhesive from the bezel. They work just fine. I made a custom dual-monitor stand out of some scrap metal.

The gloss finish is kind of annoying at certain times of the day because I get glare from the window behind me, but that's my only gripe.

I do miss my 19" NEC Flat CRT. I Paid like $400 for it back in the day. I still keep it around, as I know these LCDs will die sooner than later. At least I have a stockpile of parts for them at work, lol.

PS- PioneerGuy, I get that model of Magnavox TV in at the shop quite frequently (if that's the 15", I can't quite tell). It does have a terrible picture, so don't judge all LCDs by that one. And if one day the picture goes out but the sound keeps playing, that TV is prone to CCFL backlight failures. Not so much the inverter (though I have seen it), it's usually the CCFL tube itself burns out.

My parents computer and my laptop use LCD screens. On computers I like the limited viewing angle(I often prefer that people have a hardtime seeing what is on my computer) but when it comes to TVs there will never be lcds in my home. If I get an HDTV it will be a CRT set.

Coincidentially the only CRT computer monitor I remember tended to burn my eyes (I think the brightness was up too high).

I've been using a 16:9 HP LCD for my PC since 2007, it replaced a 21" Sony Flat CRT.

Like Andy I wouldn't go back, I don't miss the 80 lb space hog at all and this LCD is clearer and sharper than the CRT.
If there's a drawback it's that your stuck with one correct aspect ratio but you can compensate using Windows settings to make Text larger.

As for LCD TV's I think you get what you pay for, a 32" Sony Bravia HD is going to look pretty darn good, a (in the OP's words) Cheap SD Magnavox (Funai?) isn't.

I used a Viewsonic I bought to replace the old Sylvania CRT monitor on my 2003 Windows XP desktop after the Sylvania died. Didn't try hard to fix it.

Ever since I bought my laptop in November of 2010 I use it exclusively. I have hooked the laptop to my main Plasma tv but it's an earlier generation Plasma (2004) and doesn't look that good on the laptop.

I won't even go back to a desktop and being confined to 1 location in the house to use the computer let alone a CRTmonitor.

I use an HP LCD monitor, a w1907. Pretty satisfied with it. It replaced a big, late-run CRT monitor - I think the brand was KRS or something like that. It was hard on the eyes, unlike my old (smaller) Compaq monitor from 1995.

I already replaced my six 23" 1080p LCD monitors with 6 NEC brand LED IPS monitors. The LED monitors generate less heat. I needed accurate color reproduction using photo and video editing software. I prefer assembling my own desktops. I was not pleased with the Dells and HP's I purchased in the late 90's.

I'm still using CRT VGA monitors. Being a video engineer, I want real RGB in my color images. Wider gamut than LCDs usually can produce

LCD's are fine for saving space, wight concerns and so on, but I prefer CRT's for TV viewing although I'd love an LCD for the computer.

I think the above poster said it all - computers have static images, where TV has too much motion and reveals all the dirty secrets you don't notice when the image stays static. Ghosting in particular on fast-moving objects.
