Definitely looks like a smokers TV. While going to college, I used to work on a couple of TVs that were owned by older single men who were heavy smokers. Boy those TVs stank! Also, the CRTs were usually weak as these guys had a habit of falling asleep while the TVs were on and leaving them on all night(They never burned their houses down, so I guess they were good at putting their cigarettes out first)
As could be expected, on of the men died fairly young(in his 60s) of throat cancer. However the other lived on into his 80s(somehow!). |

Makes my fingers sticky just looking at it...
I used to work on PCs in the late 90s (yeah, who didn't have that dream...). I always got the smoker's PC that would stink up my desk when the fan kicked on. Sometimes the fans would be so gummy with tar they would just spin slowly, at like one revolution per second. Then my fingers would be all yellow and sticky afterwards. YUM! |

Maybe all that tar is shorting the HV to ground! LOL.
I have a spare control pannel and speakers from a maggie of simalar vintage if anyone needs it. Tom C. |

I don't like the styling of some Magnavox sets but this one is attractive to me. A very good find, I say.
Over the winter my wife and I were out for a leisurely drive in the country, just taking roads we'd never been on, "no particular place to go." As I rounded a bend I spotted, in the driveway of a 60s rancher, a trailer and, yep, it had a 60s console in it! But, it was a Philco bw. No answer at the door, I thought about leaving a note (or even just taking the tv without asking-had it been on the curb I would have.) But, I let it go. Darn, I still think about that TV...but you can't save 'em all. Oh, yeah, if it had been color I would have put A LOT of effort into saving it!

I took a walk in my neighbor this evening. Does any one want an old McIintosh computer or HP printer? Just sitting beside the curb.
No TVs though. |

hello andy,
It was good meeting you a while ago. I was thinking the same thing, that cabinets pretty nice, worth a restore. It seems anything in a danish cabinet seems collectible lately. Keep us updated on repairs. ![]() ![]()

Some older Macintosh computers bring good money on ebay.

If that is a 933 chassis it's worth the work. I find they give a great picture and they are not too hard to work on. Tube sockets can be a problem on high usage, boost rectifier, high voltage rectifier and vertical circuit capacitors. Mine (and it's my avatar) gets a good amount of use. Make SURE you dip the horizontal output current (efficiency coil) to protect the flyback.

seems to me that magnavox made some very ornate and stylish cabinets.a little too much for me but they were very well built cabinetry.decent sets and they used a darn good crt.a little underrated but generally very good sets.they were sold exclusively at lazarus stores here in columbus ohio.reasonably up-scale.they didnt sell any low quality items.awesome toy dept on the 6th floor.some of the finest german made items on that floor.what memories i have of the toy dept and their annex with all the electronics from the 60s and 70s.
