Pondering over a modern CRT TV repair...
I was given a "modern" 19" Philips/Magnavox TV. It's probably like a 1999/2000 model. I don't have it near me right now, hence the pondering...
Anyway, it has a strange problem. I can see each of the 3 colors separately for each line on the screen. If it were a CRT Projection TV, the convergence would be off. Do regular CRT tvs have convergence adjustments? It looks like it would be a decent TV if I could get the colors to line up. Any thoughts? I might dig it out of storage and mess with it later... |

There will be a set of rings on the CRT neck to adjust convergence. Also, there are wedges behind the deflection yoke for convergence. Normally, these newer sets don't fall that much out of convergence on their own. Either someone has been playing with it or the set has been dropped.

Dunno if it still applies, but I found this document explaining how to do convergence on CRTs... useful info if you've never done it before:

Well, 3 months late is better than never, heh-
I dug out the ol' 19" and opened it up. I found the 3 rings, and guess what? The whole collar spins free on the neck! I plugged it in, and spun it around until it looked right, a couple drips of super glue, and waa-laa! Good as new. Thanks guys! |
