I bid $28 on it, even at that it would have cost me almost $90 with shipping so I didn't want to risk it.

I hope someone here got it, I'm curious to see how it works out.

If the little mark on the side is the only problem it should be fine, as long as it's not being put in a Porthole set.

I saw that. Seems like a lot of 10BP's have been popping up lately.

Yep that would be me as I needed it for a RCA 8t241 set thats in the queue. I am hoping that the unit is good as well. The one that was in the RCA set when i got it was, shall we say all the kings men couldn't put it back together again. I'll update the post when I get it and test it out.

want one for my Motorola VK-105 .

I'm thinking of doing that restoration first or my national 7in
but I figure the Motorola would produce a better picture

I'm glad that someone else likes the underappreciated 8T241! I have two or three that I picked up for literally next to nothing because no one wanted them. (Maybe it's because this has to be one of the heaviest 10" RCA sets ever made!)

I have a 8T241 in the restoration queue as well

When I got it, the only free spot to put it was on top of a dresser. That was quite a struggle!

I have a couple of the 243's, same set essentially, very heavy beasts! not to mention large and awkward.
One's sitting on my bedroom floor the other on a low shelf in the closet.

I have a 243 and the only reason that I keep it around is in case I need an unobtanium part for my lovely TC127 (same chassis). The 8T-243 needs a good home really, but I am scared that I would get the old 'everything is collectable and sought after but what I have' shaft. LOL! Seems that way every time I try to move a set to take on something new or to gain space just for space's sake.

Heavy is an understatement, my son and his friends picked this one (8T241) up for me and complained how much the beast weighed. I moved it and though I could taste my spleen. Hopefully in a couple months to start this one.

I have a couple of 8T241s as well. One was from WNBQ (before it became WMAQ). Unfortunately, the 10BP4 in it ended up getting broke when my mom was cleaning the basement after I moved out. I picked up another 8T241 from a Craig's list post in Warren Mi for free a couple of years ago. I'm hoping that the CRT is good in it to restore the one from the station.

Well the 10BP4 showed up and was very well packed, couldnt wait and put it on the beltron and was pleasantly surprised that it read at over .85ma and the cutoff lasted 12 seconds.

That crazy design for mounting the crt in those sets was dumb to say the least! You would think that with all of that weight that they would have an actual chassis mount for the crt as opposed to four little slip retainers barely held by a small screw.

When I picked up my 243, the retainers had worked loose and at the time I didn't know how the jug was mounted. From the outside looking in, I couldn't believe what looked like a set with nothing holding the crt in place. Actually, I am fairly certain that upon initial disassembly I worked the chassis out the back as normal while tenderly supporting the flopping tube. Eventually you get to a point where the tube can be pulled up through he removable top, which was the BEST RCA idea of those years. Once everything was safely at rest on a table I found out that the front came off of the set and that is how the crt should have been removed. Those engineers must have been straight out of the military and WW2 because the set reminds me of something that has, for lack of better words, a military touch. Very government looking being functional, but lacking in character.

How about the screen? was the small bit of missing Phosphor the only problem?
Will it be out of sight in normal use?

Enquiring minds want to know, and so do I.

I test fitted into the 241 and the section that was missing the phosphor just made under the mask. As for the picture quality, that will have to wait as I have no other set to test the 10 tube on. The rest of the phosphor visually looks pretty good.
