newbie needs help

This is a set my parents bought new when I was a baby or tot! Can anyone help me narrow down what year this set is? Magnavox model# 1c8011. everything works but the tube is blown (according to my father). Can the tube be fixed? Dad says this is a Solid State Hybrid, not sure what that means...

That's an unusual combo unit, probably from the 1970s. What tube is bad? The picture tube? You may be able to find a replacement. Look and see if you can find the chassis number, that's more important then the model number.

Hybrid means that it has a mix of tubes and solid state devices (transistors, diodes, integrated circuits) in the same chassis. If this is a hybrid set, it's probably from the '71-'73 time period. If the parts can be found, I'm sure it can be fixed.

My Dad said yes he thought it was the picture tube and thinks he remembers buying it the year I was born, which would make it 1971. Any suggestions on where I could go to find parts? The sentimental girl in me would love to keep it! but just out of curiosity, does anyone know what its worth?

There may be someone here that's willing to look at it for you, depending on where you're located. That may be your best bet since many members here are very knowledgeable about these sets. As far as value, its really only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and unfortunately people that buy these units are far and few.

those are really rare units.the crt shouldnt be too hard to find.it is a "dog eared tube"so make sure your careful.maybe a jolt from rejuvenator?a slight tap can do wonders.i like that set.its weird and funky!

That one's a keeper! I have the '73 model, it's a great unit with plenty of bass, remote control for the tv, radio scan, and phono reject, this thing even has an 8 track!

I made what I felt was better than a fair offer on it. But now it's on the bay for a buy it now of $1495 with a starting bid of $999? WTH!

Some folks just don't understand that this stuff just isn't gonna fetch that kind of money. Maybe when they realize that nobody will pay more than $150 for it, I will end up with it....one can hope. At least she said she wouldn't just put it out to the curb.

I'm with you. Even though I don't have any color TV/stereo combos, I have plenty color consoles from the '60's and '70's. And, I have that '49 12" Admiral B&W combo with the little round CRT. Now, that one should be worth at least a hundred grand. After all, it's the only one I'VE ever seen!

Seriously, if someone wants to part with that much dough on '60's and '70's TV's, come see me and I'll load you up.
