Hello from FL

With absolutely no apologies, I'm a huge fan of the early 60s and the console combos that came from that time period.

I have a 1964 Ambassador 1822U and a Curtis Mathes model I haven't brought home yet. I believe it's an Eton model from around '61 - '62.

I look forward to restoring one of these and possibly color converting one with a transplant chassis and CRT.

And this brings me to my first question.

Is it considered sacrilege around here to convert v. restore?

dont know about others but yes, I think that is the wrong way to go. You can find sets that are color if that is what you want and buy yourself a lot less hassle.

convert vs. restore

Welcome, i too am a great fan of those lumbering pieces of furniture, tell you what though, in my opinion, theres nothing like restoring it to its former glory. The picture in my avatar was in my parents living room when i was a kid and i just finished restoring it in the last 6 months. Finding parts is all part of the hobby, and i think you would get more satisfaction from doing it right. good luck, Bruce
