Heys all, a novice emerges

Ive checked out this site a few times in the past, mainly to see what some of you have accomplished. Well now im hoping to actually join in. The name is Jay, ive unfortunately very little experience with electronics. Sans recapping a few old radios and testing their tubes, trying to keep my radios, reel to reel and record players running.

Ive always been fascinated by old tv's, prolly because my family always tended to just keep having their old stuff repaired. So i grew up in the 90s with a mid 60s zenith color tv and well.. Ive recently picked up two cheap ole girls, that id love to get working again. I picked up a non working 1950 motorola desk top and a, was working till it played a few hours, 1957 zenith royal. As my zenith recently bit the dust..only getting the ocassional glimpse of a picture in the bottom right, i figured it was time to graduate from radios to tv sets, finally get started on these old gems.

Oh and well, sorry, but ill prolly end up picking quite a few of your brains for help on these.

Hi, welcome to VK

I plan on working on a 1950 Motorola 12K2 console very soon. The chassis is probably very similar to yours. I'll be posting plenty of pictures and notes as I go along so it might help you out.

After looking at mine, its a 12T3, from what ive found online it says its the ts-53 chassis, looks like yours would have the ts-23 chassis. I wonder how similiar they were to eachother. I should grab my digital cam and post a few pics of it tomorrow.

Here's another shot of that chassis. http://img297.imageshack.us/i/cars016.jpg/ Looks like it's a TS-58. I think all the Motorola chassis from the late 40s/early 50s were very similar.
