Bowers TV ?

Really oddball set here, looks like might have been a kit.

So close yet so far from my lineup. Someone go for it and I will pick it up and store it until some delivery is discovered.

Is it me or is the chassis made of hot dip galvanized sheet metal?

Yes it is!

The ETF lists Bowers as a company making TV's from 1948 - 1953.

The cabinet is different enough that it couldn't just be a modified RCA 241, though it resembles one.

Wonder if they were sold as kits?

There was a Bowers company in Reading Pennsylvania that made sparkplugs batteries...stuff like that, wonder if it is related?

Same company. A while back I found an ad for that set, but I can't find it now. I think that Chuck Azzalina found a similar set a while back.

Bowers originally sold re-badged sets, 630 clones and a few 7" also. This model is one of their own creations. Yes, the chassis is made from galvanized sheet metal. When you pull it out of the cabinet, you better have a good grip on both corners as it's like trying to lift Jello. Construction wise it looks like a kit TV, maybe mine was built on a Monday morning after a bad weekend....
