seeing double
Hi all,
so far this forum has been a great source of information and once again I am back again. I have repaired the connector on my 12lp4 tube (help from here) and started up the Philco 49 tv and the picture tube comes up. Now i am using a vcr as the input and i get a picture although ugly, but it shows up as two images stacked vertically (see pic). The tv locks horizontally and vertically but has the two images. any suggestions? Thanks, |

Your Vertical oscillator is running too slow by half so you are getting two pictures stacked on top of each other.
Look for a seriously out of spec resistor or an incorrect capacitor in the Oscillator tube circuit. What happens when you turn the vert hold control? |

When the vert control is adjusted the screen starts to roll, and will stop at any one of the half screen start positions, I ill check the oscillator area for incorrect values, thanks

Ok, I looked over the osc circuit and found that i had left a older original orange drop cap in the unit thinking it should be ok, replaced it and voila, single screen, it periodically looses vert lock but I did place just a temp cap with a close value and need to install a proper cap. found 5 more of the older caps and will replace them later on, once agin, thanks for the info, you guys are lifesavers.

Look for and replace any micamolds. If you see what looks like a mica, but its value is 1000pf or more, replace it.
