'73 Motorola "handle on side" 12" B&W set
Here's one from SC that's in rather rough condition, a '73 Motorola hybrid 12" B&W TV. The only tubes in it are the vertical osc/output and horizontal output/damper. There's even a "no user serviceable parts" warning on the case. I'm not sure; but, this set looks to have been made in Taiwan and appears to be a cheap set that will be a bit of a PITA to work on. Right now, it's totally dead and it may end up being used for parts in the event I find a better example. Years ago, I had the bright green version that even had "solid state" on the front; but, it still had the same hybrid chassis as this one. Anyone ever owned or worked on one of these?

PITA is an understatement. The only cover that was removeable was the top part of the back. The lower part appeared to be glued. IIRC the tubes were 53HK7 and 25JZ8, plus the CRT. Not one of their better efforts.

Check the fuse, lots of those sets had lightning spike blown fuses and that one looks like its been replaced.
Its kinda cheesy but I like it. |

This one has a small plastic plate on the underside that can be removed; but, it still does not make things much easier. I guess they were trying to copy Zenith on the removable plate. Since this is a '73 model, it was made only a year before Motorola sold out to Matsushita. I wonder if any of this style set were made after the Matsushita buyout?

Model BP3103KN. A 50GY7, 25JZ8, and the CRT, along with three resistors (120 ohm 15W, 130 ohm 5W, and 82 ohm 3W) make up the series circuit. Interesting to note that it's a DC supply. It's also a quick-on chassis - the power supply filters are removed from the circuit in the off position, lowering the B+ value, and hence the amount flowing to the filaments.
