I wasn't sure weather to post this in the B&W or color forum, but it is a color set now so I posted here.
Ugh! So much for it being a slim cabinet - look how far back the modern chassis sticks out. Originally, this set used one of those really shallow wide angle CRTs like the Predictas. Doesn't exactly fill the screen bezel either. http://cgi.ebay.com/Wonderful-1959-G...-/160498755487 |

I'd like to have the Zenith remote for an early SC 400 set that's on top of it. It's a shame what they did to the GE, that's my favorite B/W set they made..

just a guess, I wonder if he actually paid for someone to do this, if so maybe trying to recoup what that was.
Too bad, I like the look of that set, would have been nice if it had not been moded, but I guess there is a market for these. |

The neck on that CRT wasn't that short. That was the GE model that had the deep metal back giving it the slim appearance.

Glenn Beck used a set like that on his show for a little bit, then got a color one:

Make-believe "retro" people with their kitchey knick-knacks, old tv guides and wrong-make vintage remotes; make me sick.
That turd has no appreciation for the engineering and actual technology, he's all about the cosmetics... Like the typical shallow, materialistic consumer. He is a fickle, prissy woman, pretending to be a man.

I'm probably going to do the same thing to a 50s Italian set i have, but...
But in my case the set is pretty much wrecked, the CRT is broken and more or less unobtanium, the chassis has a toast flyback to begin with and also has lots of mice damage I plan to install a 18" color CRT and chassis in place of the original stuff, but i'll keep the original chassis so that if i ever find a replacement CRT and flyback i may actually restore the set to its original conditions. |
