anyone familiar with Emerson ECR2100D?

1988 model, 110 channel, 19" remote color set, red led channel indicator

here is the problem - can receive channels 02 - 16 then jumps to channels 95 - 99. no matter what i try can not get tv to program channels, using a generic remote i can go up to channel 36 by manually keying in channel number, makes no difference if set to STD, IRC, HRC or if CATV/AIR is engaged. is this one of those bastard sets that require a dedicated remote control?

not really a big deal, as i have a couple of convertor boxes, and a few older quality vcr's that have tuners built in, just really annoying! i would not even bother with the set excepting for the fact that is has really good color, and the set looks cosmetically new.

I think that set has some form of autoprogram button on it. When you press it, the TV will rapidly run through all the channels. Even at that, those sets weren't able to receive more than 42 channels on cable. That "110 channel" statement is sort of misleading as they add the 68 "air" channels to the 42 "cable" channels to get 110.

If the autoprogram does not work, the set likely has a bad tuner or tuner control problem (which I've seen on those). I've also seen shorted HOT's, bad flyback transformers, bad yokes, weak CRT's, power supply problems, loose connections, and vertical problems with these sets when they were just a few years old. About a year ago, I fixed two of these for a guy. One had a weak CRT and was full of bad solder connections and the other had a bad cap in the vertical circuit. Before that, it had been years since I'd worked on one. I'm telling you all of this so you don't spend too much time with it. Those sets did make a decent picture; but, they were not much to write home about as far as being reliable.

well i tried the automemory/program again and now can get channels 02 - 36.
somewhere in the garage i have the 13" version of that set that someone gave me 3 or 4 yrs ago - stone dead of course - maybe when the weather cools down and i have free time i will see if they have interchangable parts - don't want to waste too much time on the devil - although it does produce a great picture for a 22 yr old emerson

Some of the early cable ready sets only tuned to 36. Then they jumped to channel 98+. Thus the designation 110 channels. Dave.

could be that 36 is the normal limit - a very early colortrak i had only tuned to 54 as well as one of the Curtis Mathes consoles i have only tunes to ~ 54 if i remember correctly
set seems to work great otherwise - i'll just mate it to an emerson vcr of that vintage that i have and be done with it - don't really use the set at all - just checking it out -
