Pretty set. Think he might have a rather optimistic starting bid, tho...

Color scheme for the mask and speaker griile looks a little different than expected, but seems to be original. Not obvious that it has faded, either. Is this this the walnut cabinet?
Pretty impressive price so far! Tom |

For what this is selling for, I would not hesitate to sell one IF I had it. WOW.

I prefer the model with the dark trim, it looks more like its pre-war cousins. |

The walnut photos seem to have watermarks from another seller and the set is sitting on some sort of padding with a different background.

I'm sensing that these old televisions are inflating in price.
Here is another interesting sell an Emerson 600: http://cgi.ebay.com/360279757775 Perhaps with so many flat-panel TV's around that folks are reminiscing back to the old look and thinking that these TV's have value rather than to be looked upon as junk? Carl

These are fairly rare sets (only 17,000 made) and historically significant as RCAs first post war production set. They usually sell for a couple grand or more.
The blond version is even rarer. I've only seen one for sale in the past few years. Here's some more info http://www.vintagetvsets.com/621database.htm |

Extremely rare objects tend to make people do crazy things:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_2412wt_930 I love vinyl, but I have my limits! I'm always seeing popular records from the 50's and 60's where people have them listed as RARE RARE RARE. Yeah um... something that sold millions of copies isn't exactly what I'd call "rare." An early television of which only 78 known examples have survived; now that's different! Five months ago another one sold for $2,572 and Eric called that a new record. I guess the bar has been raised to $2,800!

Actually Harry Poster sold a nice one a couple months ago for $2800.
I think it was working too. |
