Finally snagged a SONY GLASSTRON!
I've wanted one of these for years... Stereoptic LCD monitor in semi-opaque goggles. I really don't know yet if they're capable of 3D or virtual reality, but they're sure a cool Sony gadget that I MUST have. Originally I wanted one as a high-tech novelty, but now as a vintage collectors item. I had been watching them on eBay, and finally decided I could make a few sacrifices and cough up for this one. I paid a lot for it since it's 100% complete and working (only thing missing is original box, which is a fetish I have with TV sets unfortunately). I went and picked it up in person yesterday after I was high bidder. Haven't hooked it all up yet for pics.... Waiting for my wife to be safely and happily out of town later today on a horseback ride weekend, before unveiling the new toy. I shouldn't feel guilty, as she got a new iPad yesterday.
Charles Link to auction I won, until I take some good photos of my own. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I guess those cracks are from sitting on it? I am guessing you may find one that does not work for cheap without cracks to fix the good one? I never saw that product. I bet it was more popular in Japan.

Very cool find - I remember these being sold in the AAFES exchange years ago.
I may have a service manual for this in my Sony ESI manual collection on CD - I'll take a look. Hopefully it's in PDF if I have it and not the Sony proprietary reader format. Either way, if I have it, I'll send it to ya.

I didn't, but Sony ESI in Canada does - for the EURO model:

Hi Charles,
Nice find! 1.55 million pixels resolution, Wow! that's per LCD or both added? what is the native display's resolution? I have these more modest Eye-Trek made by Olympus, great to watch TV in bed at ungodly hours such as the Academy Awards (2-6AM in Europe) via a 2.4 GHz RF link or via a local TV tuner. Hope to read a test report of your new toy soon... Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |
