GE Model 801 in "The Catered Affair"

Is this a GE model 801? The movie is "The Catered Affair" with Ernest Borgnine & Bette Davis.

I think that's the little brother to the 802s that a couple of forum members have restored recently.

Yes, it is. As I recall, I felt about how Ernest Borgnine looks in that picture after working on that one. I just had to open the 802 back up due to vertical shrinkage, which has now been corrected.

The movie was on a worn-out VHS tape from the library. Trying to pause it turned everything to mush, so I gave up and snapped a photo while it was playing.

I really like the look of these sets, with the radio dial matching the size & shape of the TV screen. The 802 is too big for this place, but I might be tempted by an 801 if I ever ran across one.

From what I've seen, the 801/802 seem to have the same size footprint. While it seems like kind of a juggernaut, the guy I fixed the 802 for used his as a tv stand, and it is of the perfect height for such a purpose. Both models are pretty attractive, as they are about the only 40's combo sets that don't look slapped together.
