Annoying Craigslist ads that don't go away...

This rediculous thing has been up on craigslist non stop for nearly 2 years now on Chicago CL. Would it dawn on the seller that he is asking too much for it? I remember it was $500 when he first posted it way back when. If I had tons of money, I'd buy it just to get it off the listings...

Its a train wreak, chassis all loose and flopping around like someone has been into it, it looks a lot worse that the pic (prob cause that pic has got to be at least 1 year, before that I was not even looking for TV's)

Same price every few weeks.

I offered him 35$ 6 months ago, figuring it would be a parts set. think he came back with 80-90, not sure, I wonder why he does not just drop it to the 80-90 he wants. I told him with out checking in to it I have no idea of the status, so the low offer. the style puts me off some too so that is where I left it.

They leave these ad's up because they think that, sooner or later, someone with no brains and lots of money to burn is going to fall in love with their junk and pay their asking price. Heck, I'd be a multimillionaire if my junk was worth what most everyone on CL thinks their junk is worth.

There's a vendor at the local flea market who has a bunch of overpriced radios that I know have been out there at least 10 years. I've tried to talk with him; but, he let me know that they were priced and he wasn't coming down. He's another one that thinks that the right person will come in and buy his junk.

As far as CL goes, it's more for entertainment than anything. I get a good laugh everytime I see one of those gaudy '70's particleboard console stereo's priced a $600. And, the few things that I see that are reasonable are usually listed by flakes who either change their mind when someone shows interest or they simply don't even respond to emails. I think I've actually gotten 2 things off of CL in the past year: a late '50's Magnavox mono console phonograph and a '38 Philco table radio.

I'm baffled by the folks that keep up an ad for awhile, and after a month drop the price. Fine. But then when it doesn't sell at their discounted price, they bring it back up to their original asking price! Why? The GE 802 for sale in NJ is one such example 375, then 350, back to 375...

Well all they need is one match, someone who had that exact unit then they were a kid or something like that.

You could make him an offer and see where it goes. Looks like an ok unit.

I think sellers do this because they can, since the ads are free. I would rather keep filtering out the junk on my own than see Craig's List start charging for ads and become super-complex as Ebay is.

Once raising the price actually worked for me.

I used to have a 1948 Stromberg-Carlson radio/phono console with the old FM band, working but unrestored, I tried to sell it before I moved from CA to MI, I started with the price at $50, slowly over a year or so dropped it down to $40, $35, $25, $20, $15, to free. And I could not get rid of it, and thought it was too nice to part out, so I took it with me. When I got here I put it on cl for $60 and it sold for that after only a few days.

yes location is everything, its slim pickings down here, I figure all the folks that come to florida to retire are not going to lug there antique tv's from chicago with them.

I have had pretty good luck, but you have to be willing to drive several hundred miles.

Years ago, I have priced some 19" color TV's at $35-$40 just to get rid of them in a hurry. I've actually had people say, "There must be something wrong with that TV because you're selling it too cheap". I'd give it a rest for a few days and bump the price up to $75 and they'd sell. Of course, that was back when a 19" TV was worth more than a few dollars. Now, when I price a 19" TV for $35-$40, they say, "WHAT, you want $35 for that outdated thing! I can get a 19" LCD at wal-mart for $150 that's so much better than that outdated old junk".

I just ran into the same type thing before I read these postings, I am looking for a good used Dehumidifier to save my tv collection from moisture.
I can drive 60 miles for a NIB model only 7 months old for $140.00 and they claim they just got it at Lowes for $150.00
I just called wal mart 5 miles away they have the same unit for $139.99 I think I will drive the 60 miles for the NIB somebody hauled home,just because it's NIB and handled by them hmmm go figure LOL

You should buy neither. I see dehumidifiers every week for $20 at estate sales. The bonus is, these are 30-year-old US-Made models that actually work, rather than a POS "LG" that craps out in six months.

Just ask my friend that keeps buying them new while I'm on the same $20 Kenmore from an estate sale years ago.

The bottom cabinet face is identical to the '69/'70 Astrosonic credenza console stereo I grew up with - at least you know the age now Darn good sounding stereo too.

70's zenith tv console w/ record player, radio, 8 track player

Late 70's CCII combo with a BSR changer - I'm guessing one of the last years for combos. TV doesn't work, "was husband's grandparents" - they're down from $1200 to $350 or reasonable cash offer.

I e-mailed them a few weeks ago and offered them $15. I wrote again last night and offered to move it out of their way for nothing. Of course, I did not receive a reply.
