1967 Zenith Color TV Brochure

This is a fold open brochure scanned as a PDF. Now that I have a good free PDF hosting service, I can upload many other brochures now. I have a file cabinet full of 1960's brochures for RCA, Zenith, Panasonic, Dumont, Emerson, Sony etc etc. Most of my litterature is Zenith though which is a good thing. I have the Zenith factory showroom 3 ring binder catalogs and much more. Almost all of it came from a closed down TV shop near where I grew up. "Henry's TV and Appliance" in Wheaton, IL. It looks like he collected them himself as many of the brochures have other local TV shop names stamped on them. This 1967 Zenith brochure is one I got off ebay a while back however.

Now I know the name of the old Zenith I have in the storage area - it is the Vanceboro , Model 25X4537, Chassis 23XC38Z.

Someday I should restore the set, but that will be a major undertaking - the only reason I haven't scrapped it is because the cabinet is in really nice shape -

I think that Zenith PROVED the value of their "hand-crafted" chassis!!

After all--many of us here have both RCA built color sets and Zenith built ones, from the "60's and such. We ALL know which ones are most likely to work, at least to a degree"right out of the box" as-found--and with NO restoration, at least for a quick check. Sure--we should re-cap them and such anyway...but many Zenith roundies and before--and after--are safe to "fire up" and test"--and run--at least short-term-- BEFORE a rebuild. Not so with RCA and other sets of that vintage.


I am SO glad I now have a CTC-5 set. I waited since I was 11 years old to get another one. Mine will NEVER leave me. And it has a wonderful CRT, and good power tranny. Of that i am SURE. I am SOOO tempted to apply B+ and "fire 'er up". I AM SO eager to see that old 21AXP22 show a raster!!

But I know better. The old RCA' s are NOT built like the Zenith sets were. I run a HUGE risk--according to many--of taking out the fly, coils in the If, video and chroma ckt, and other things--without a re-cap. even if I "slow start it"---it may not save things, some say.

But a Zenith of the same period...would probably work well enough to run, at least for a short time. It just shows how MUCH BETTER they were built!!


Until the sytrem 3 sets....the "quality DID go in, before the name went on"!!

I used have "the Hartford", except mine had wheels on the bottom instead of legs.
