Saw (and passed on) a 16:9 CRT set
There was a Dish Network brand 16:9 "HD" CRT set at the thrift today for $125, it had Composite, Component, DVI and And S video inputs (and regular NTSC I think) so I'm not sure what the max resolution would be on it, 420p or maybe 720?
It didn't have a fine pitch CRT either but it did work, or at least it turned on and had a bright CRT. I seem to remember Dish offering a HD package deal some years ago that included a TV set. Wonder who made it?

a couple of similar sets have been showing up at our local thrift lately. Typically priced from 80-125 dollars. We were just given a 16:9 crt set for free, a Samsung from '04 (I think) nothing very special, but it does produce a nice picture, although the picture is a bit contrasty.

I was given one a few years ago. Was made by thompson or whoever the french company is who makes the rca brand.
Could never get it to work right. It came with issues with the stand by power supply. They offered a kit to fix it and it took much more than that. It never did work right and a google search resulted in so many pattern problems I gave up and let it go. Listed in on ebay and the guy who is the head of communications for the LA Sheriff dept bought it as a backup parts set. Another one of those super heavy crack-o-matic plasticy case sets.

I have the rear projection model of that set.I got it in 2003 as part of a high definition deal they were offering.It is actually an rca(thomson)chassis.The thing still works great and I have never had a problem with it.

Loewe (hope I spelled that correctly) was touted as a German built HD CRT TV, and even had the euro antenna connector, at a number of local dealers here. It sounds like these ended up as the sets you are talking about.
I (STUPID) agreed to repair them under warrany them without tearing one down. It was a Thompson. What a nightmare. Problems from the start. Replacement chassis (yep, it got to that) didn't work out of the box, sets would flame out after a short while, purity problems (beam benders) are just a few goings on. Software was written very poorly! Glad they are gone! But wait!!!! Does anyone remember the Phillips IDTV!? Run fast if one is near you! Don't let it in your house!

The only good 16:9 HD CRT sets are Sony IMHO. The rest seem cheap and flimsy.

My 2006 27" CT-27HL14J Panasonic "Tau" 16:9 set is pretty good - it was a studio monitor for one of the local school systems. 1080i resolution using component input is sharp! CRT is flat, but dang, the set is deep!
I've got it connected to a Samsung ATSC/QAM HD tuner and get only 9 HD channels on basic cable. Cheers,

The one thing nobody says about the 16:9 CRT HD is the fact they are HEAVY!!!!
My Sony 34 incher is still here at the shop 'cause nobody wants to kill themselves moving it! We use it for soap operas right now.....
