TV Interview on German Television and Color mechanical Television

Hi folks.

last week, I have given a television interview on early German pre-war television of the Nazis and a demonstration of mechanical color television with the Nipkow scanning disk. The reason of this television report was the 75th anniverary of scheduled television service in Germany and the 125th anniversary of the first worldwide granted television patent of Paul Nipkow in January, 1885. In the studio, it was possible to record the color image on the scanning disk without black bars and flicker. You can watch this video on

The interview lasts more than 20 minutes in length in German language, the mechanical color tv was demonstrated at position 50:05 minutes upwards.

Very nice presentation Eckhard. You seemed very much at ease. Knowing your subject matter as you do makes it much more enjoyable. I haven't heard of any interviews like this over here, but this was a very important anniversary for Germany. Nicely done.

Thanks for posting that. I enjoyed the interview, and even learned a bit about pre-iconoscope cameras that I didn't previously know. The Zwischenfilmverfahren (method for "live" TV using a TV camera to view freshly developed film in a continuous process) was also something I had read a bit about, but now I understand the reason for it, given the camera technology of the times.

Nice demo of the Nipkow disk TV. Too bad they didn't have time to venture into more modern TV technology and see some more vintage TV equipment. Perhaps for your next show...
