Older Sony small screen B&W's

I may be getting some older Sony B&W's from someone and wanted to see if anyone had some information on these models and what would be a fair price. The owner has not given me any idea what he wants for them. I'm supposed to see them Tuesday.

1. Sony TV-790. It's supposed to work except the horizontal hold is off.

2. Sony TV-500U. Works and has cigarette lighter plug.

3. Sony 5-307UW. Has carry case and owner's manual. All control knobs are missing except the channel knob. Has raster and sound. He claims that this was a new set that, for whatever reason, someone stole the knobs off of it.

4. Sony 5-303W. Has carry case but power cord is missing. Has audio but no vertical deflection.

I have 3 of those 4 models. A few of each.

They are great well made sets that can produce a great picture. They will need all the lytics change, about 40 in each set.

The reality is they are kinda useless other than historic and cool. Its not like your going to hook them up to a converter box and watch them.

They were real handy when you could just pull up the antenna and turn it on and watch.

I would say $5 ea would be a fair price.

That's what I was thinking; but, I have an idea that this guy is going to want more than that. Oh well, I know how to say "no".

I have a '78 3.5 inch portable Panasonic that I've had for ages and it's seen extensive use prior to the analog shutdown. It does have a 1/8" headphone style antenna plug that I could use to connect a converter; but, this TV is basically useless as far as a portable.

Do these Sony's have any type of external antenna jack?

I dug out a '99 TV price guide and found the Sony 5-307uw listed as a TV for hospital use and it's called a "stericall". In the picture, it looks like a standard 5" portable TV with the addition of what looks like a vertical row of white pushbuttons or indicator lamps. Anyone know what use such a TV might have had in a hospital?

That vertical row that you see between the screen and the knobs is the UHF tuner.

PS: it does have a 75 ohm antenna jack, but no video input.

Well, the TV's were a "no go". For the exception of the missing knobs on that one model, they all looked very nice and I would have liked to have bought them; but, he wanted $150 for all four. I casually threw in that the market for these sets had really bottomed out since analog broadcasting went away and that all the TV's would likely need a full recap to work properly. So, we sat around and visited for about an hour and he left. I told him that I'd think about the TV's; but, to go ahead and sell them if he got the chance.

Since I've actually seen these sets in person and like their looks, I'll probably be on the hunt after we get back from SC.
