appropos of nothing: Hallicrafters S-120
Looking for something on Photobucket tonight & stumbled upon this photo of "my" S-120. Pretty low-end (transformerless) but a freebie (courtesy of Gary Kaufman) so no complaints :-)

IIRC, that was Halli's replacement for their earlier "S-38" series of entry-level sets. The were basically AA5s w/shortwave capability. Many a wide-eyed boy got his start in the magical world of "Radio" back in the old days w/one of those little guys...

Told you a Story....Inadvertantly, but it was still a Story. My bad... They were 4 tube sets, w/a selenium rectifier. Sez here in Chuch Dachis' "Hallicrafters" book, they were made from 1961-64, & were $69.95, which wasn't an inconsequential amount. If you decide to fix it, I'd suggest replacing the selenium rectifier, along w/a recapping.
