Rca ctc-40 feeler

I have an RCA CTC-40 that needs a horizontal linearity coil (part#126847). Just wondering if anyone has any NOS or parts layin around for grabs. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

I have some parts but struck out on that one-email/call Moyer Electronics in PA if you haven't already, good chance they have one.

Looking at my 40, the horizontal lin coil is quite simple - looks to be a single coil of 22 gauge wire wound to the outer diameter of the coil form. If yours is shorted or open, a rewind would be a cinch to do. Radio Shack still sells the magnet wire. 3 pins, only two are used - start and end, that simple.

Found it at Moyer...they also had a new set of tuning knobs for this set so I picked them up as well as one of mine are missing. How much of a task is it to replace this coil? Would rather do it than haul it away for someone else to do it if its fairly straight forward. I'm no dummy when it comes to soldering n such.

Pretty simple - slide the chassis back, desolder the three pins (they kind of "snap" in to the board) and remove the old coil. Then just solder in the new one. You'll need a hex alignment tool (what I've always called a diddle stick) to adjust the linearity after replacing the coil. Specs on the coil are tight - .3 to 1.2 uH range, which isn't much at the realtively low frequency the coil is operated at.

What specifically was wrong with the old one?

Its blown apart into two peices. The picture is certainly watchable...however if you get a letterbox program on (almost every channel these days) you can see the picture has a "bowtie" shape to it. This being a combo I hate to drag it all the way to the repair shop for this simple fix as its an hour away. Not to mention the weight of this monster. I have a set of hex tools from when I was adjusting the convergence coils.

One other TV question. What would cause me to lose focus when the picture is bright? For instance, I have perfectly crisp clear picture then when I get a screen with loads of white in the background I lose focus until the overall picture comes back to a darker level. Should I look at the brightness limiter? This didn't start until I replaced the HV rectifier tube.

Yep sure does....Guess I'll have to find another HV rect tube.

What type do they use? Should be dime-a-dozen. I'm bound to have one NOS.

Not sure without taking the set apart...which I will get to this weekend. Anyone have a schematic on a ctc-40 that they could get me a number for this HV tube? Also, this is a combo, the audio has NO bass response at all.....either on the tv or the stereo. The bass control is working... barely but with solid state, not sure where to start looking, any suggestions were to start would help.
