what do you guys think about this tv?

its a zenith system 3 space command, looks to be in real good shape and even has the remote

Assuming the set is in good working condition with a strong CRT its not a bad deal. I've never been a fan of this series of zeniths because of difficult troubleshooting when they fail or when the CRTs develop internal problems. I've run into 4 of these series that had arcing inside the neck of the CRT and they all had weak CRTs.

You're mileage may vary - I just had a bad experience with these sets.

hmm thanks for the info, this doesn't have the chromacolor chassies does it? cause thats mainly what im looking for

Nope, no system 3 labeled set will have the vertical chromacolor II chassis in it. The very first system 3's from '78 did use a power transformer driven power supply similar to the CCII sets; but, that's about as far as it goes. These early sets used a 9-153 HV/sweep module. The second generation system 3's did away with the power transformer and used a 9-160 power supply/HV module. The third generation system 3's used a 9-181 or 9-214 main board and a 9-186 HV board. As far as picture quality, the 1st, 2nd, and early 3rd generation sets had the best pictures since they used a tri-focus inline tube. The later 3rd generation and newer sets used a more modern inline tube. CRT's really didn't hold up well in the earlier system 3's, especially in anything bigger than 19". And, they all can be a pain to troubleshoot. As far as ease of service, I'd take a CCII over a System 3 anyday. I don't think the original intent was to repair system 3's to the component level. The whole idea was to find which board(s) were bad and swap them.

I finally got the picture to come up and that may be one you want to save. I can't tell if it's a 13" or 19" set; but, it is one of the earlier system 3's and I believe it has a motorized remote controlled tuner. If so, that's one of the last Zenith sets with motorized tuning and it needs to be saved.

EDIT: I just re-read the part where you say it is remote, DUH on my part! But, I'm sure this set uses a motorized varactor tuner.

Yes, thats a motor drive tuner. I have this same set, its a 1979-80 model.

And that's an ultrasonic remote. My uncle had an '80 model Zenith console with OSD and cable ready tuning that used that same remote.

well i just talked to the lady that had it and she says it does work and confirmed it has the remote. does 10 bucks sound like a good deal? lol

also the tv was originally her moms so it has stayed in their family which is why i think it looks like its in pretty good shape.

I'd pay up to 40ish dollars if it had the original remote and worked well. It is capable of making quite a nice picture as long as the tube is healthy.

I have one kind of like that except it has a tuner like a radio. Very good picture even though the crt is starting to peal on the inside.
