He never "hocked" it up so who knows, it might work ok. It's pretty scratched and FAR from the first Moto color set but try and talk him down to reality and save it. Please

Good luck, I hope it's not another CL flake! I'd bet he'd take 50 bones for it but you'll have to refinish it to make it look nice. Still worth it IMO, refinishing is fun too.

It's worth looking into as all he can do is turn you down. Myabe he'll be like the guy I found on CL that wanted $400 for a '50's Magnavox console record player. By the time I was done with him, I managed to get one of those zeroes shaved off.

I was just about to post this CL ad to start a thread! Lately when i have been searching on a CL search engine alot of vintage electronics are turning up in CL antiques instead of electronics. Definately too much money, and i agree with Mark about the 50 dollar acceptance. I just got done watching a show on the History Channel called Pawn Stars. If you get a laugh out of people that think their items are a goldmine i recommend you watch this program. This program is a cross between antiques roadshow, and comedy.

DEAL!

The guy selling it is not a scam artist and will take $40 for it. Im picking it up Saturday morning. Sounds like its complete, he gave me a model number (so he thought, it was just a serial number though, but that means the tag is still on the back!) I'm going to guess this has a TS-918 chassis? Could be one of those cases where the photo makes it looks alot worse than it really is. Either way its a Motorola color set, we know how rare they are today. It'll be saved and given a second chance at life.

Great! 40 bucks is a steal for a Motorola! I'm happy it's in good hands. Looking forward to better pictures of it. I hope another comes along when I have the money and space

I doubt you'll want to see pics of this poor thing. I still bought it but its beat to hell. Looks like someone used it as a work bench and also a craft table judging by the amount of residual dried up glue and paint on the top of it. The majority of the cabinet is hacked up and dented, chipped and gouged. Its pretty sad. Oh yeah, its even a smokers set

It'll be an organ donor unless someone out here wants it as a project TV.

If the chassis is restorable and the cabinet isn't too complex you can always refinish or re-veneer. Of course, its one of those labor of love things. I had plenty of sets that I was holding onto in hopes of restoring them - but most ended up becoming donors because of the complexity of the cosmetic restoration. You can only pour so much blood sweat and tears in before you just want to give up!
