Sencore CRT Tester
Just got a Sencore CR143 CRT tester in the mail. It is super clean, hardly seems used at all. Even the vinyl on the casing is near mint condition and no rust or corrosion anywhere.
I have heard the Sencores were pretty good testers.....any thoughts? Anything I should watch for? Also, the tester did not have the tube setup chart with it. Anyone have a copy or know where I can get a copy? Are the setups pretty much the same? I have a setup chart for my B&K 465 and I know the voltages would be the same but for setup on the tester...wouldn't this be different? I wasn't sure which forum to put this in so if it is the wrong one, please put it where it needs to be. Thank you all.

Shucks...not as good of a find as I had hoped.
I have a B&K 467 but I am not all that happy with it. Beltron was mentioned. Is there a particular model that works best? I don't want to stress out these old roundie crt's, especially given the growing rarity of them and the ability to rebuild them. As always, all info is greatly appreciated.

I'd go for a Sencore CR70. They have a universal adapter and work quite well. I found one for $15.50 Right now they seem to be asking unreasonable prices for them on eBay, but you might find another bargain like that.

I have a Sencore CR143, and have used it off and on for about 15 years. I've saved dozens of color CRTs with mine. I recapped it when I got it, so it's all newer Mallory TC series caps inside (3, IIRC, with one rated 500v). The only BW CRT I've ever saved was a 21" in a 1950's GE set - most of the others had open cathodes. One rule I follow is to lay the set face down when Rejuv'ing so that anything blasted from the cathodes falls into the CRT, rather than being bounced around in the neck, which could lead to a H-K short or worse.
My B&K 467 is my Cadillac tester - I use it on the newer (post-80's thin neck) CRTs. Other than an occasional pulsating needle problem, it works well. I was surprised to find it has a tube INSIDE the tester, which is odd for an 80s era tester. My Dad has used his two B&K 470's for years with little trouble except for the cheap plastic cases and their plastic molded hinge. A piano hinge and a few screws fixed that. The update charts are available on the web for the 470 and 480 B&Ks - a little ingenuity, and I can use them with my 467. One question - does anyone else have the RCA CRT guides from the 80's? About 12 pages, and it lists all the physical and electrical characteristics of most "Pre-A" (A63X...) tubes. I've got one, and haven't seen anything like it on the web or offered on eBay. I may have to scan mine to share here. Cheers,

I have a CR143; very clean, looks like it was hardly used. Bought it from a guy at the flea market who was selling off his father's stuff, guy had been a hobbyist from the looks of things. Something is screwy with mine, it would burn some resistors, something messed up in the rejuvanation circuit. I jury rigged it to work.
Anyway, there was an extra setup guide with it. You are welcome to it. Send me a PM with your address.

I for one would like to find both the Pre "A" and post "A" CRT guide as well. It would make substituting color CRT's a lot easier. Why this info is so hard to find on the net is beyond me.
