Sad looking 621 on eBay

Really sad looking, low serial number though.

Honestly I think I'd have a hard time paying the opening bid for this mess, it needs a new cabinet and the CRT is busted.

The neck of the CRT obviously got whacked. That'll be a toughie. Maybe some good parts in it still. But not for that price would I go for it. For a fee I might remove it.

Unhappy

Looks like it used to rain in his grandparents basement.
I think this one is too far gone to reasonably bring back (unfortunately).

Funny, I received an E-mail today with a link to this auction, presumably by the seller trying to drum up some interest?

They're coming out of the woodwork.

Check out the brightener hanging off the CRT. I still can't get excited about blonde finishes, either.

The junker is up to $265!

Phil, I gotta give the seller of the other one some credit for leaving the brightener on and taking a picture of it to boot, he could just as easily taken it off and played dumb about the condition of the tube.

That set was listed before and didn't meet the reserve at $835

Yeah, at least the seller is being honest about it.

One brightener is not all that bad; I had 3 stacked on a 21FJP22 in an old Zenith roundie years ago. You could shut off all the lights in the room, and read by the light coming from the CRT neck. It wasn't a long time after I put on the third brightener that things really started falling apart inside that poor old tube.

I went in to hassle a radio shop owner I'd known for a long time, and ask him for a replacement for this tube. It turned out he actually had one! I did a Saturday morning R&R CRT and the set was fine after that.

But I was lucky. These wine glasses are getting hard to find. And it is glaringly apparent that there are a lot of dreamers on eBay.

I tried stacking 3 brighteners on a 25XP22 one time. It looked good for a few seconds, but then the circuit breaker blew. I could honestly say I used that one all up.

There is a second 621TS on Ebay now as well, in better condition. It is also blonde.

I don't think the trashed one is blonde, it just looks like really faded mahogany to me. The darker areas are still much darker than on a true blonde one.

Yep, it's a Peroxide Blond.

I just received a second E-mail from a stranger alerting me to the junker set on eBay, I don't know if they are just trying to be helpful or if they are shilling for the seller.

Well someone paid $550 for it. I hope they can resurrect it.
