No sir. Mine is all tube to the best of my knowledge minus the nuvistor in the tuner.

(which is technicallly a tube)

That is a nice one... I wish I had more space for a tv that big but it is just a little to far for me.

Yes the stereo is 100% solid state. Sorry.. They usually put out decent sound too. Amp is a little underpowered as the bass drowns out and turns into midrange at 40% volume.

yea I figured the amp was SS, I was wondering about the TV chassis.

I noticed the drop off on my astrosonic vs my PP 6bq5 version. Still decent, as I really cant take it too loud anyway. The other thing is the astro has 12" vs the tube using 15" which I am sure accounts for a big difference.

I may have located a magnavox color set not too far, but looks even newer on the amp, my guess would be early 70's, but it is a hideous painted white look, I really really hate that look, much prefer the classis dark brown finish.

man I tell you the 70's really had some funky looks going on. remember door ways with beads (I know it was a 60's thing but that was underground, by the time the of the 70's it was mainstream

From the looks of the turntable and control panel, I'd say that Magnavox is no older than the early '70's. The TV chassis could go three ways - all tube, hybrid, or solid state - as this was the transition period. I'm going to lean towards it having a hybrid chassis.

That Maggie looks like a '68/9 to me. I could be wrong but I used to have one similar..... It would be worth checking out IMO.

On the RCA; Shawn's right; all tube TV. It does have a Nuvistor, but that's actually a tube. It's just a subminiature RF amp tube in a full metal jacket. It may also be a CTC-25, which used the same bezel on some early models. Can't tell...

On the Magnavox, that's a mid-late 60s model due to the channel windows below the screen. Probably '68-'69, based on the 23" tube and the squared-off channel knob (as opposed to the old banana-shaped, pointed one).

Edit: I took a second look at the picture of the RCA, and I see the channel knob is the old pot metal one. That confirms it's a 17, assuming the knob's original.

The '17 was based on the CTC-16 (same 'long' chassis, same tube lineup) but upgraded to drive the new 25" rectangular small-neck CRT. The '17 was a very short production run in transition to the mainstay CTC-25. As for the '17 being 'hybrid', it did use one small-signal transistor in the sync/blanking takeoff area, right after the vid.detector. The transistor disappeared in the '25.

To the OP: are you sure the set pictured is a '17 and not a '25? I don't remember the '17 being available in a combo, though it might have been.

Yes they did offer the CTC-17 un a combo unit. I have one.
I understand that they are rarer than some too..

I recently found a gutted -17 combo, and I know another member on here did as well. So, they are tha that much more rare now.

Hey guys!
Well I picked this beast up yesterday and got around to checking it out tonight. I unloaded it in the garage. Well it is a CTC17 XAD chassis. Identical to my CTC17 XAB set. Powered up with HOT pulled for a while, caps stayed cool.. Plugged in HOT...

Nothing.. Got sound and no raster.. So.. I pulled HOT, 6BK4 shunt, 3A3 HV rect and 6DW4 damper.

Ready for this?? Every tube was dead!! I mean DeAd!! No reading (well the HOT had 1/4 in the bad).. Wow! I have never in my days collecting and restoring had a set with all bad HV tubes before..

Anyway I went through my stash and replaced all with new. Powered back up again and got this..

Im tested the CRT, all guns are working halfway, most likely needs to cook on 8v and thats what im doing to it now. The CRT is a replacement RCA Colorama from 1970. The green raster is most likely bad demod tubes..
