Need Help With Mitsubishi VS-50609!
Well, being an idiot,I bought one of those little handheld video games you plug into the input jacks in the front of the tv.Everything was working fine while I was playing it.Then when I unplugged it,and tried to use my tv,the convergence went caplooie. The colors are all now off-center,like really bad 3-D.I tried adjusting the convergence for blue and then red,and when I went back,it looked the same.THEN I tried the advanced convergence, and when I went back,it still looked the same.
This is a Mitsubishi big screen(the old pre-HD big box from 2003 or so)VS-50609. Did I just screw the pooch on this one?And if so,would having it fixed be cost effective,or should I start looking for a new Flat screen? Any and all help for a tv Noob would be greatly appreciated. Jimmy

Convergence amplifier IC
Sounds like the convegence amp IC died. Pretty common problem. Part number is STK-393-110. I've done a ton of them. It's just a matter of unsoldering the old one and soldering in the new one. It also needs to clamped to a big aluminum heatsink in the set. Don't forget to use a thin coat of heat sink grease. The IC is IC8C00 and located on the signal PC board on the left edge of the chassis (as viewed from the back of the set)
You didn't do anything to cause it to happen, except turning the TV on. These chips run pretty hot and just eat themselves up. |
