Knowing
Starring Nic Cage & a horrible wig. Cheesy, but entertaining thriller/sci-fi/action flick. A couple of really good disaster set pieces & an astoundingly ludicrous ending makes it a fun time waster. Wife loved it & didn't pay any attention to the numerous plot holes. Recommended for bad movie lovers & nondiscerning movie watchers.

You know what? That was almost exactly my reaction too! My 16YO was actually incredulous, "All that for...that?"
'Blowing' might have been a more truthful title.

I agree with the OP, not the greatest flick ever made but worth a watch.

I liked it, my nephew and his SO did not. Seems that I went in 'knowing' that it was a sci-fi flick and he did not, therefore the ending seemed overblown to him, and right in-step with what I expected. I'd bet if more people understood that this was going to be a sci-fi film rather than some sort of psychological thriller than the reaction would be a bit different.

We watched it last night and found it to be pretty entertaining, which is why we watch movies.
To be entertained. Sure there is a hole or two in the plot, but still entertaining. I have to admit, the scene that follows as Nicholas Cage is stuck in traffic near Logan Airport was pretty impressive! That was one scene where a nice large TV and a good surround sound system show what they are for!

Lots of holes, but I agree, as a sci-fi movie it is what is to be expected. Pure sci-fi. No psyco babble/action movie/mystery movie. Just good old entertainment. What I also liked, was that in the end it was just natural causes that destroyed Earth. No political sway about humans destroying themselves, in the end, we were just extinguished. Nice change of pace.
Now as for surround sound, yeah Baby. It about shook the house down during the subway scene. My family and I were staring at each other with wide open eyes. They finally "got" why I set up the surround sound. ![]() Why on earth they didn't go with 7.1 I'll never know. Our H/K receiver matrixed it fine, but true HD 7.1 would have been soooo cool.
