(curb) "shopped" my first Flat panel set today.

I beat the big Heil packer truck, with 3" cylinders on the packer, to the set by at MOST 5 minutes!! It is a 2009 model Samsung 40"LCD set. Model # LN-S40A560, IIRC.It looks new. The front was NOT cracked or badly scratched at all... I had SOME hope(but not much, when I saw how new it is) that the panel was NOT cracked. But of course....it is. VERY badly cracked. On ONE side(the right side, from the front--a partial picture, with some streaks and such is visible. the other side is all spiderwebs and rainbows.

Too bad, I had hoped it was a 2007 or perhaps a bit older model, that would maybe need caps or such. But no--it is a current model, and broken. At least, some parts will be useable at the least.

So....it is NOT likely to get fixed. had it been ANYTHING else, PS, digital bd, T-con board....I most likely could find parts on shopJimmy or Ebay, at a cost that makes repair worth it. but not with a broken panel. Too bad...as I said...it is nealry new, with 2 HDMI ports and component RGB and such. Unless I can somehow find a panel for $300 or so, and that is NOT too likely.

Heh, just fixed an LCD moinitor that had bad caps in its power supply.

heard that when football season gets going, many flat panels get ruined by footballs tossed at the set. Something CRTs didn't mind so much.

Maybe you could crack the other side so the multicolor spyder webs and such are on both sides, then hang it as modern art. Just a thought. I have seen several Samsungs new out of the box with this problem. One reason I do not push them.

Before Christmas I was ringing the bell for the Salvation Army and there is a TV shop in the shopping center. I'd never managed to get in there since he is closed on the weekends. Anyway, I stopped in, had a nice talk, and he asked if I wanted his current load of junkers. Nothing real exciting, but it did include a flat screen Magnavox. He said the screen was bad-looked fine, physically. Well, I was cleaning out the shed yesterday and decided it was about time to do something with that beast. Plugged it in and sure enough, as soon as it lit up it looked like a shattered window pane. Kinda neat. I'm having a big yard sale Saturday with lots of surplus stuff from my collection, so this will go out there in the "free" pile.
