Pulse Console TV - Videokarma.org TV - Video

I was watching "Pulse", a 1988 movie I used to like when I was a kid. It's about some sort of evil force or pulse that can control electricity and that frightens and tries to kill a family by putting the appliances against them.
So I noticed this very beautiful TV set and was hoping someone here could figure out the brand/model of this console.
It must be from the mid-80s and I tought it could be a Mitsubishi, because of the detail of the remote control...
Any guess?

It's a Mitsubishi, you can see there logo on the remote, but I don't know what model it is...

Yep, looks like it Says MGA, definitely a Mitsu, nice set. I've seen one before but wouldn't know the model number or how to find it.

The remote is obviously Mitsu, but the console set reminds me of a mid-1980s Sanyo (Sears SR2000 house brand?) because of the button lettering on the control panel. It's also stereo (per the control panel), so that should narrow the model search.

I could swear I saw a Mitsubishi like that but who knows......been wrong plenty of times.

I'm gonna put my money on a mismatch. The remote is definitely for an MGA, but the controls have Sears written all over them. The remotes almost never match the TVs on TV or in movies.

They usually don't match the time period for movies either, I usually see too new of sets in movies set in the 60s and 70s. I think man, with all the warehouses Hollywood has, they should have the right stuff to make movies, look at all the cars they have. Plenty of collectors would love to see one of their sets in a movie too, no one thinks to try and contact one.

Yes, I agree. The remote is possibly from a different set. But talking about the time period thing, the movie was released in 1988 and the set have remote and OSD, according to the picture. So it's probably a set from the 80s. This youtube video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1LeE4sKPUI) shoes a 1985 Sears TV set. The controls are in fact similar...
Does anyone have pictures of Sears sets so I can compare or try to find out the model??

There are at least two factors that drive these decisions.

First, the producer or set-designer gets an idea of a TV look or style, then asks for That particular look, even if the vintage is a little wrong. I've had problems adjusting to that, but realized that, except for you and I (and the other AudioKarma people), no one actually remembers when a set was made...(like the people that call me to sell their 1940's television from Hitachi!!)

Second, the reason they don't call you: They often need the set tomorrow, or later in the week, so no time to investigate sources. If you pay to advertise in the Prop Guides and listings for too much each year, the prop people call you, to ask for an old telephone booth or a mask of Ronald Regan...hello, the listing said prop TVs!!

And, if you have only a few 1940s and 1950s sets, they want the other style, or a 1980s set, or maybe 3 Exactly the same, or one 'just like that one'--but instead of the 10" screen, one with a 17" screen. I've even had someone come over to 'look at' a TV camera for a potential rental in a still ad, take a few pictures to show the producer, and then say, No Thanks...and then went back and had the model shop make two dummy cameras, rather than renting!

And, even if they rented from you, you'd might hate it! You might get $50-$100 rental (and some fame), but I've received returned sets that were nailed together for a certain look, painted, sprayed, scratched, and more. Working sets go out, misteriously non-working sets are returned. Or they ask you to get 4 sets packed and ready to go first thing Monday morning, and somewhere about Wednesday, you call them to see what happened, and they say the producer decided he'd use a radio instead of the TVs, and they already had the radio...

If you tell them they damaged the set, it's a protracted battle, and they wouldn't use you again. It wasn't them, but maybe the delivery guy you picked knocked the end of the CRT off. Then, often they rent a set or two, and film it, but cut the scenes with the TVs in it (big disappointment)...or show them from the back or side, across the room, at the edge of the camera's lens!

For me, I'm still waiting for that rich producer that needs 100 vintage TVs from all periods, that has unlimited funds, and wants to feature them....and pay for them And give credits in teh movie
