A scarce 60's remote set.

Here's a nice mid 60's RCA B&W set with a remote, I haven't seen one in ages.
It'd be worth saving if someone is close to it.

Hmmm. I don't know. The seller has zero feedback and says the picture tube (CRT) may be "burned out". (Most CRTs do not fail from open filaments, but from low or no emission, although many non-technical people say a tube is "burned out" when it doesn't work anymore, even if the filament lights normally.) The set may be restorable or it might not. If the CRT is gone, there is no guarantee that a replacement would be available, especially these days when CRT TVs are all but obsolete. Probably the only way to get a replacement CRT for this set, if it needs one, is from a junked set with the same size and type tube.

A defective CRT, as we AKers know, is not the only reason a television set can fail to produce a raster. The horizontal oscillator and/or output stage could be dead (or the oscillator could be far off frequency), the HV rectifier tube could have an open filament (the 1B3/1J3/1K3/1BC2, et al. tube often used in older TV sets has been known to fail, even though it has a one-volt filament powered by a single turn of exceedingly well insulated wire on the flyback), the high-voltage fuse in the doghouse (HV cage) may have blown due to a short in the rectifier tube or other problems, and so on.

My point is that there are several other reasons besides CRT filament failure why a CRT would fail to produce a raster. The seller may not (probably doesn't) know nearly enough about how a TV set works to have even considered these other possibilities.

I would be wary of the seller's zero feedback rating as well. Ebay sellers with feedback ratings of zero or some very low number are almost certainly brand new to online auctions, and are prone to making the mistakes many first-timers make, such as setting the opening bid too high, omitting important details in an item description, etc. While I wouldn't be too concerned over winning an auction for some small item from a seller with zero feedback, I would think at least twice before bidding on a vintage radio or TV (for example) being offered by an eBay seller with such a low rating. Granted, an eBay seller has to start somewhere, but I don't think starting out by auctioning off something like a TV set, especially when the seller probably knows little or nothing about the inner workings of the set, is the right way to do it.

That is a nice looking set even though it has big problems but maybe just nice to keep as a collectible as the originality of this set looks darn nice. I'd say it's about 1965/66, judging from my 1964 RCA Victor portable b/w with remote control.

As far as ebay sellers, I agree with Jeffhs, I am very wary of anyone on there with a zero feedback rating. Anything under 100 feedback and a 98% positive rating, well, I just stay away from them. Money is to hard to earn to throw away and I made a couple of mistakes in the past by trusting people with less good ratings on ebay.

I'm sure the seller thinks the tube is burned out because it no longer has a picture, they said it used to so odds are it wouldn't suddenly burn out, probably no high voltage.

It would be good for someone who could pick it up, unfortunately I can't think of one single person in Ohio who collects old TV sets hmm, nope, no one I can think of...

Maybe he thought it was burned out because he didn't wait long enough for the tubes to warm up. A lot of people inexperienced with tubes tend to make that mistake.

But I wouldn't buy a TV from a different part of the continent... I hear that the magnetic pull of the earth screws with the picture if you move it to another part of the world.
Like if you buy a TV from the southern hemisphere and move it up here, the picture will be totally upside down.

But if I ran into this bad boy at the flea market or something, i would snatch it right the fuck up. i love earlier RCA Victor electronics (heh, I even like the more modern stuff (pre-1980s), but very modern ('90s, 2000s) "RCA" stuff is just depressing), and it would be awesome to have this thing in my room. I wouldn't mind that it's in B&W. It would be cool actually. Besides, You don't even notice whether it's colour or B&W after a while. But I allready have an older (not really that old; 1983) RCA TV in my room, but the remote control on that one in the ad would be awesome, because it pisses me off having to get out of my comfortable bed to turn off the TV or change channels, or adjusting the tuning. It likes to slip out of tune on channel 11, and when I turn on the AFT, it actually keeps it out of tune. I'm considering looking for one of those tuners with the electrical outlet in them, so you can change channels, and turn the TV on and off with a remote control.
