Some folks I know own some rental property; they asked me last year if I wanted this console that a tenant left behind...too new, sez I. Well, as of this week they were still stuck with it, couldn't give it away, dump won't take 'em anymore. Bryan said, okay, load it up.

1987 RCA CTC-140B console, Colortrak 2000, was pretty nice at one time. The cabinet is looking rough now, and the inside is full of mouse droppings. So, I bring it home, run the extension cord out to the truck...the LED's on the front panel all light up as soon as I plug it in, and that is all it will do. Before I part it out I will give it one shot. Anything special I should look for? A quick google search came up with a suggestion to change C4403. I'll look for that, any solder issues, anything else? I'm not sinking any money into this because, even if it springs back to life and works better than anything on the floor at your neighborhood Best Buy...I'm going to have to give it away.

Oh...and the usual offer applies-drive over to my house and I'll load it up for you-along with a whole bunch of other sets!

Resoldered bunch of stuff, replaced that cap...no responses, set is in the way...today it will die!!!!!!!!!!

It's a Thomson built set... any chance the buttons would work for my CTC 187?

I'll grab the control panel before I toss the cabinet. (the dumpster is full until next week, so no hurry.) Actually, I think this is among the last of the true RCA sets. At least there is no mention of Thomson anywhere on the set. I had one of couple years ago that looked almost identical, maybe a CTC-159? But the chassis was a lot different and it was Thomson as I recall, from '88 maybe. That one was an easy fix.

Anyway, maybe someone knows for sure what will work for your set. Don't have a part number, do you? I have some NOS RCA parts but with few exceptions I couldn't tell you what model they fit.

No idea what the part number would be. All I know is I had to remove all 6 buttons from my CTC 187's control panel, because they wouldn't stop pressing by themselves. The remote works fine, but I want to get into the service menu and can't do it unless it has buttons.

The buttons have 5 pins that connect them to the board.
