Twister

Everyone knows about the movie Twister, but has anyone ever seen a similar movie called Tornado? basically the same plot, but less popular, a lower budget, and slightly more cheezy.
(mind you, Twister isn't without it's cheezy lines [not to mention product placement... those Pepsi cans used as propeller things on those little ball things])

I'm not sure which of these 2 movies came first... if Twister is a ripoff of Tornado, or the other way around.

[sorry about the goofy grammar, Im tired as fuck right now]

I've seen both. Had exactly the same impression: it looked like Tornado was a cheap knock-off of Twister, but I sort of remember they came out at about the same time. There was some pre-release media hype about two competing movies on the same topic being under development, and speculation about which one would be the better movie. Twister won, hands down!

(Actually, I think some of the cheesy lines are part of what makes the movie appealing, in a juvenile sort of way. The guy who talks about "the suck zone" and "imminent rue-age" is a great geek portrayal. I knew plenty of guys just like that at Harvey Mudd college; just naturally "cheesy"!)

It wasn't the first time that has happened. There were two volcano movies ("Dante's Peak" and "Volcano") whose production schedules overlapped, which also benefited from similar pre-release hype about the competition between them. They turned out to be quite different movies; much less similar than the tornado-themed movies were.

There was "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact", two movies with very similar plots. I thought the former was awful and the later pretty good. "Armageddon" is on my 10 Worst Movies list (I don't count the grade-Z films like "Tornado").

I thought "Twister" pretty mediocre but way better than the awful "Tornado."

I thought Tormato was a made-for-tee-vee moo-vie.

Is that "tormato" a reference to something?

Another thing I forgot to mention about Twister... in 1996 the north east area of Saskatoon got hit by a tornado, but mostly the outskirts, and the drive-in got trashed, the night they were scheduled to play Twister lol... wouldn't it be freaky if that tornado hit later on, like when the drive-in in the movie was being trashed? LOL

My thoughts exactly. I saw both Tornado and Twister. Both did not blow me away.
