I'll bet they'd be insulted if I offered $10....
....and $10 is probably more than it's worth. Actually, I was hoping they would offer to pay someone to haul it away.

The only thing that POS is fit for is to be dumped outta the ass-end of a pickup going 85 on the interstate by a bunch of rather inebriated teenage hooligans, & watch it bust into a zillion pieces...

There is a non working 40" CRT set at the local thrift, Toshiba or Mitsu I think, $14.99 or thereabouts and it's still sitting there today with Vacuum cleaners stacked all over it.
 If I had space and a good back I might have picked it up to play with but as it is no way I'm gonna wrangle with that heavy thing.

I always wanted a Trinitron 40", but this week they were available, next week they weren't, week after that, yeah they were, then right after that, they pulled the plug on 'em... Seems like they were stupid expensive, too...

I'd pick it up if I saw it on the side of the road somewhere, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it or pay anything for it. Most of the ones that I find are easy fixes, maybe our bottom of the line sets got better flybacks than yours.
I would grab that 40" Toshiba/Mitsubishi if it was here simply because I've never seen one, though I'm sure I'd end up regretting it when I had to move it around.

RCA flybacks really started getting terrible in the late '90's, beginning with the CTC197 chassis. A local TV shop that I frequent is flooded with these newer RCA's, some less than two years old, with bad flybacks.
No, I won't be making an effort to get this set. It's 2+ hours away and I can get enough junk for free right here. Seeing that CL ad brings back memories from back in the '90's when I was buying broken TV's, fixing them, and selling them. I usually never paid over $10 for a broken TV unless it was super nice and I thought I could fix it cheap and make a decent profit. Often, someone would call me with a story like "I've got a 25" GE console color TV in a beautiful cabinet and it just turned itself off and will not come on". Then they would ask how much I paid for broken TV's. I'd always tell them not over ten dollars. Then, they would scream "TEN DOLLARS!!!! I PAID $900 FOR THIS TV AND THERE'S NO WAY I'M SELLING IT TO YOU FOR $10!" They would go on to say, "There can't be much wrong with it since it just turned off, probably just needs an off/on switch or a fuse". I had another guy get very upset at me when I offered him $10 for a broken 19" TV. He told me in a real sarcastic tone that he'd throw it in the dump before he took $10. I have never understood people with that attitude. They'd rather throw something in the dump and get nothing for it than to accept the $10 for the TV. I usually caught this sort of attitude from older people. I think they were having flashbacks as to how hard they worked for the set and how much they paid for it 15-20 years ago. What they don't understand is that if their TV lasted 15-20 years; then, it has paid for itself. I think they also have visions of me beating them out of their TV for $10, fixing it with a $2 part, and selling it for $250. Many of the TVs that I bought were easy fixes and others went straight to the trash. I usually didn't make much off the ones I fixed. If I could make $10 or $15 profit, I was happy.

Righto! I frequently see 36" Trinitrons for cheap money, and when I have some extra cash I'm gonna pick one up as a backup for my 31" RCA. It's 15 years old now...still has a great picture...and I have NO desire for a flattie. Maybe near-constant use is good for a TV?
