Yes, a very nice TV. Did you notice the three speaker set up? If they cared that much about sound quality, the picture probably was excellent, too.

Now *that* is just plain *cool*! That has got to be just about the niftiest looking Japanese TV I've ever seen. What strange styling too! The overall styling looks rather european, but the channel selector is pure "American jukebox". Then there's those cute red lighted indicators above the control knobs.
Also, despite the fact this set almost certainly was only sold in the Japanese home market (in other words, not for export), it seems interesting that all of the control labels and other markings (at least on the front panel) appear to be in English. Almost all of the (very few) Japanese "home market" consumer electronic products that I've encountered are labeled primarily in Japanese (though usually with a heavy sprinkling of English words "transmogrified" phonetically into Japanese katakana characters). |

Hello,
how did I find it? I have searched for the Japanese ebay. But I found a note in a German forum, that ebay was not successful in Nippon. The Japanese people use Yahoo instead. Then I searched for the vintage tv section on it in Japanese language. Meanwhile I have found a way to translate it into English: http://translate.google.de/translate...hl=de&ie=UTF-8 The vintage television section is located here: http://list5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp...gory-leaf.html and translated into English: http://translate.google.de/translate...istory_state0= I have never seen Japanese tube-based tv sets. It is exciting to see what is offered there! Really marvels between a lotz of junk. Kind regards, Eckhard |

Hello Eckhard,
You have excellent searching skills! I have found some of my best finds in obscure listings. BTW - Where is your avatar image from? Anime? Take care, Bob |

Hi Bob,
thank you very much. My avatar is taken from a screenshot of the CTC-5 with the currently running television programme. I don't know which programme was running, it was a random shot: http://bs.cyty.com/menschen/e-etzold...Betrieb6aa.jpg Kind regards, Eckhard |

What a fun find to browse in. A few American sets. And a few of the sellers seem to be repair shops. Remember them? One seller of a Columbia 17" color set recommends making it an aquarium.
Deep in the site I found a 7" Admiral but even better was finding the sellers blog. I think he is a repair shop and we would all kill each other trying to get through the front door. The Google translation is rough but readable. Enjoy the window display of eight Sony 803's. http://translate.google.com/translat...jp/vrc-tezuka/

I like the green channel buttons. I wonder if they're backlit.

Yep. My family had a Sears color set c. 1964-65 that had that approximate shape/size screen.... It wasn't quite a "roundie" in the traditional sense, but it definately wasn't really "rectangular" either. IIRC, it was a Toshiba, & it was a maintenance "bear", gave LOTS of trouble. My dad finally said the hell w/it, & got one of the 1st Porta-Colors in E. Tennessee, which ran 18/7 for years w/nary a burble. He sold the ill-starred Sears to a guy he worked with, I think it worked fine for him for years & years...The Sears just didn't like us, I guess...
