I came across this newer looking console TV. My heart sank upon seeing that it was a Zenith... It sank even more when I saw the date: 1993.

Why did I take it home? Well before I did, I asked the owner about the picture. The owner said it had a good picture on it..................

The owner must be legally blind...

Anyay I got it home and fired it up, hoping, praying that maybe, just maybe it had a non Zenith CRT in it. Nope... Picture was verrry dim, and a red color. Then after about a minute the color shifted to green, then the green got verrry bright, and I unplugged the damn thing fearing something would go POP!

I've already junked the chassis. At least it has caps I can use.

What was I thinking? Why did I drag it home? It's mostly just empty space inside...

Before I opened this thread, I had a sneaky suspicion that you brought home a '90's Zenith TV. One of the flea market vendors that I deal with brought over such a set and said it didn't work and I could have it for $5. I told him I didn't want it, PERIOD.

I can tell you from much experience that you can never bank on what the owner says about it having a "good picture". I've heard this time and time again only to see sets with horrible pictures. I've had sets for sale with not-so-great pictures that the buyer would jump all over; despite the fact that they could have bought a much better set for just a little more money. My friends in the TV repair business tell me that they never adjust the picture unless the customer request that they do so. They said that too many times, they've adjusted a customer's TV for a proper picture, just to have them raise sand and talk about how bad it now looks.

i have a really sharp 27 inch crt for that vintage zenith if anyone wants it.i scrapped the set out because the cabinet was junk.very bright ,sharp picture.

The garbageman is going to hate me, because I also dragged home a mid to late 70's RCA that also had a very tired CRT... and it still had a better picture!!

Well, all is not lost. The chassis has a few caps that I need, so yay for that.

What chassis was in the RCA? Was it one of the stand-up modular chassis?

I always wonder what the trashmen think of me. LOL. I toss a lotttt of old sets.

I didn't even bother to find out.

RCA XL 100, broken slider controls, 25 inch screen, both a VHF and a UHF dial. Red gun was just about dead. setting the red screen bias to max produced a faint red color, when the whole screen should have been a bright red color, since I had a picture of a red square on it.
