Recent TV finds.
During a recent trip to the city I was lucky enough to drive through an area having a trash collection. Unable to resist, I spent some time driving around and managed to find a few worthy additions for my collection.
The first find was this Australian manufactured Philips model 02KJ658 (K12A chassis). Apart from a couple of missing tuner knobs and a mildly damp affected cabinet base, the set is in reasonable condition. It hasn't been tested yet due to the power cord being cut off. These K12 chassis sets are fairly unusual as they were available for only a short time and in limited models. ![]() The chassis has the typical hard wired E/W module modification. Sharp eyed readers from Europe will see several differences between the Australian and European versions of this chassis. ![]() The second set is really unusual find. It is a 1977 Blaupunkt Toronto (FM100 chassis). This 22" West German set has an inline CRT and has the unusual feature of having diagnostic LEDs on the chassis to provide at a glance fault finding. This set has been stored in damp conditions for a while and the base of the set has deteriorated but is still in one piece. This set has also lost its power cord so is as yet untested. ![]() The slot in the power supply cage is where 5 of the 9 diagnostic LEDs are located. The rest are found on the deflection (right hand) panel. The RGB drive module has been running very hot as can be seen in the picture. Half of the PCB is badly discoloured. ![]() The last set is another Australian Philips model 02CH631 (KL9A-1 chassis). This is a remote control set with all the user controls hidden away in a drawer. This set is in working order but needs some work to improve its performance. ![]() The upper drawer has all the user controls (channel buttons, volume and picture controls etc). The lower drawer is for channel presets. ![]() The chassis is a common one for early 1980's Philips sets. I believe it is very similar to the European K30. ![]() I had to pass on several more sets as I didn't have the room for them. I did salvage the chassis from a couple more Philips sets that had very rotten cabinets (K9A and a KT2A-3). I also salvaged the chassis from a now rare Australian made Kriesler from 1975 (59-1) chassis. This was a lucky find as I have a similar set missing most of its chassis. Finally, here is a picture of one of the reasons I went into town. This pair of Philips VCR's are rebadged Sharp units from the early 1980's. The top one is a VR401 with a minimum of features. Below is a VR501 which is a more up market model.

Really? Seems odd, but then again, RCA tubes found their way into a LOT of sets.

I have the European versions of ALL of those sets!!!
the European version of the K12 chassis had a different power supply, your set seems to have a fully isolated chassis and a SMPS power supply while our Euro version had a live chassis with a simple rectifier and a series switching regulator. Also your set has a tripler while European K12 sets had a more modern diode split flyback your KL9A-1 chassis is in fact almost identical to our K30, the only obvious difference is that little board with the screen trimpots on it, our K30 had the trimmers on the chassis just under the focus control. I also have this same blaupunkt Toronto set, mine has a Toshiba RIS CRT and is in mint conditions but the picture is really lousy with purity all over the place, i think the CRT is toast, if we were closer i'd gladly give you mine so that you could make a good set out of two. many European sets used RCA PIL CRTs but they were manufactured in Italy by Videocolor under license from RCA and sold under both brands. |

My Blaupunkt also uses the Toshiba CRT.
Another difference with the Australian K12 chassis is the thick film RGB amp modules have been replaced by discrete replacements on PCB's. The two are functionally identical and interchangeable. |
