I was given this TG&Y 12" B&W over the weekend. The date is worn off; but, it looks to be from the late '70's. The set was built by Sampo with a Clinton CRT. When I first fired it up, it had what looked to be severe "bad filter crawl" in the picture. The filter cap was a dual section 85uf@180V can. The cap actually checked around 95 uf on my cap meter. All I could find was a 220uf and a 100uf in my junk. I used the 220 uf for the first section off of the rectifier diodes and the 100 uf for the remaining section. There still is a little "crawl" in the picture; but, it's much better. The cabinet also has a crack and the top mounting screw is broken loose. One must be careful when picking up this set or it will come apart.
I had a set just like this in the early '90's that had a bad flyback. I remember repairing the set; but, I can remember if I pulled a flyback from a junker or ordered a new one. At that time, many TV parts suppliers had those 12" B&W flybacks for a few $ and those TVs were worth $25-$30 on the used market then. So, I might have ordered a new one.
I just thought I'd post this and see how many of you have run into a TG&Y branded TV. Other than the other B&W that I had like this; I've seen a 13" Sampo built color set and a 19" NEC built color set in a metal cabinet.
