Gary Shandling show TV set
Am wondering if anyone can ID the color console set in Gary's office......am guessing that it's a RCA and probably an XL series.
This is one super handsome modern/contemporary set. Never got a chance to watch this show when it first aired on cable, but now that the local FOX affiliate has been rerunning them it's become a favorite of mine. Having worked in the movie/tv biz I can tell you that it's spot on---most of the smarmy characterizations are beyond perfect and believe it or plotz, aren't exaggerated! Anthony |

Love to help, but I haven't seen Garry Shandling's Show in a long while. Got a visual? Only set I can think of is in a wood cabinet with rounded sides. If that's the set, it's probably a high-end Colortrak called a Contura, and it was a limited run set from about 1979. Looked for it on Google but nothing came up pixwise or info-wise. But I do remember seeing an ad for it somewhere. If that's not it, well... uh... oops.

You're right, it did have somewhat rounded corners.....black vertical speakers on either side of the screen. Very contemporary in a classic sort of style.....still looks good. Somewhat reminiscent of some of the console Sonys.

Just watched last night's rerun and am now pretty sure that this set is a Sony. Could almost see where they kinda covered up the 4 letters directly underneath the screen, and I think I saw the 3 oval color dots on the upper left hand corner of the set which Sony seems to always use on their Trinitrons.

Sonys are VERY easy to ID for me anyway, because of their screen shape-flat sides, rounded top & bottom. They must have an extremely stable pic, too, because seems like most anytime you see a TV actually playing on TV, its a Sony. -Sandy G.
