Possibly the best cinematographer of them all

Was Oscar-winner Jack Cardiff, who passed away this week at 94. He was also known as a film director, art director, and lighting director. He is most famous, however, for his work with the great director Michael Powell on his two masterpieces, “Black Narcissus,” and "The Red Shoes." It was Jack Cardiff who came up with the color schemes and the then revolutionary use of slow-motion and exaggerated perspective.

If you've not seen both of these films you've missed out on a couple of the milestones of British, nay, world cinema.

A truly unique and great artist was Jack Cardiff. May he rest in peace.
