Am I addicted, obsessed, or nuts. NOS RCA XL100 console!!!

I think I have enough tv's, really I do, consoles especially, but dammit I picked up another one.

While browsing the Bay I stumbled upon this 1982 NOS, in the box, RCA XL100 console. I could not let it pass. So after a 698 mile round trip, and a few dollars to the seller, it now resides with me.

I had to christen it properly, with a 1982 film, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Now I am on the prowl for a 1982 vintage RCA VCR.

Very similar to my 1984 Colortrak, except no remote capabilities.

Any NOS set is a treasure! While '82 may not be the most exciting year in TV production history, I can think of several good things: the "old" RCA was still alive, still making very good sets. (arguably, they made the best set of the American companies at that time.) Lots of cool things on TV that year! It was then that I discovered SNL, a 10-year old staying up late to watch Murphy & Piscopo. It was about that time that my uncle replaced his 60s Admiral console with a new RCA. After careful comparison he decided it was the best-built of all. (he would have bought a new Admiral in a heartbeat, had they still been available)

Out of curiousity, did you get the Original BOX with it???

The set was uncrated by the seller to photograph. The box was there. I chose not to take it.
I know some consider this a crime, but what the heck. Not really interested in the monetary value of the set with the original crate. Besides who the hell, and where the hell, is one going to store a cardbox of that size and keep it from disintegrating, picking up odors, becoming a home for spiders and cockroaches etc.

Wasn't that the one that showed up at the ETF last year? It came from RCA's Sarnoff museum. Sorry, I think its' virginity has already been taken.

there were two at last years etf.one was boxed and bolted to a pallet and one was on a pallet.both were ctc 68s.one early american real wood cabinet with short legs. it had alot of damage to the cabinet.maybe during transport?the other was a plain,no frills,square pressboard and vinyl cabinet. i got that one.cant say much about the quality of the wood work,but the picture is smokin!i use it in my bedroom and it is very sharp.forget plasma,lcd,dlp,etc.there units still deliver the goods.

Samspon, I agree with you. A properly adjusted used CRT can look phenomenal, so an entire NOS set must be spectacular! great score there .

I see no need to go buy a new set. Plenty of great ones here and many still out there waiting to be saved.

Awesome score? No one even paid any attention to the two that were being sold at the ETF last year. One was NOT sold in the auction. The other went for $50.

Yes, strange how we will get all excited about a set...and next week the same model will go begging! I have had to junk some sets in recent years that would be met with shouts of "amazing find!" but yet I couldn't give them away. The early 70s remote chassis solid state Magnavox comes to mind. Right now I have a clean 21" Sylvania table model from about '74 that needs a home, zero interest out there.
