Made in Mexico or Taiwan for sure. Not Chicago. Not that it really matters, but to a collector it might.
Can't blame eBay sellers throwing knob tuned sets like this on auction: They definitely think it's older than it is. Seriously doubt that he was trying to pull a fast one here...but ya never know!

I think its an '84. I worked for a Zenith dealer then and it sure looks like the little B&W jobs we had.
But there are others here who know Zenith a lot better than I do so I could be wrong

The first clue is the 70-channel detent UHF tuner. I haven't seen a set older than about 1973 with this. It was mandated in the US around this time (just like UHF tuners themselves from 30 April 1964). An expansion of the all-channel act required that sets not only be able to receive UHF, but offer equal amenities for UHF tuning as for VHF. In this case, "clickless" UHF tuners that tuned like a radio had to be replaced with ones that clicked (or, in the case of very inexpensive sets, particulary mini-portables, the VHF tuner went "clickless" as well).
A more reaching effect of this was that now, TV sets with remote control (which had only allowed for the remote switching of the VHF channel knob, and thus allowing only one UHF station manually set at the "U" position), had to change between one UHF channel and another as well. The proportion of sets sold with remote control briefly -fell-, until new tuners could be designed, first with several (usually 6) slots for programmable UHF channels in an 18-stop tuner, then the rush to electronic tuning. the guy probabally just picked a year at random.
Most people don't expect knobs on any TV made after 1980, so it's understandable he thought it was older. (Also, it seems it was originally sold in Canada when it was new. AWESOME!!!) But personally, I would have guessed it was made some time in the 1970s, and I definately would NOT say it's rare. But then again, anyone can say anything on ebay, just to push the goods. I once saw an ad for a Lloyd's 8 track player/recorder on there, and the guy said Lloyd's was a top of the line brand name in the '70s, and had it for some astronomical price... much more than any sane person would pay for any Lloyd's equipment.
